Athirappally Destination Guide

Anyone who had been to Kerala will recall the name Athirappally or Athirappilly and associate it with the renowned waterfalls there. The majestic falls of Kerala deserves its nickname – Niagra of India. Situated on the banks of Chalakkudy river, this lush green destination gives you the spectacular view of Athriappally waterfalls and surrounding vegetated mountains. Playful monkeys and murmuring jungle give you the warmest welcome while the splashing river thunders its way down through the forest.

When a holiday is planned to Kerala, especially during monsoon and after monsoon, a visit to Athirappally is a must. To enjoy the best of nature and its grace, you can hire a bicycle and peddle it from Thrissur to Athirappally and then proceed to Vazhachal. If peddling is not so convenient, think of a ride from Kochi to Valparai via the most famous waterfalls of Kerala. Taking the trip a bit more closer to the nature, you can try a nature walk with forest authorities after obtaining necessary permits and passes. As a continuation to what one experience at Athirappally, a collection of ripples, popular as Vazhachal waterfalls, is located at a distance of 5 kilometers from Athirappilly. Vazhachal is also the entry point to Vazhachal forest division. Entry to Vazhachal forest division is possible after obtaining a permit from the forest checkpost at Vazhachal.
