Kayaking in Varkala? Are you a lover of water sports? If your answer is yes, you must have searched a hundred times for the kayaking options in Kerala, the dream-destination for water lovers. Varkala is one such exotic locale, where you can spend some quiet moments on the shores, and also enjoy delving into the water. Kayaking and canoeing in Varkala have caught the fancy of many tourists.
Varkala is located at a distance of around 50 kms from Trivandrum, and 160 kms from Cochin. It is well-known for its beaches. They have charming cliffs along the shores, which makes them stand out from other beaches. Mayyanad Lakshmipuram beach, close to Varkala, is the hub for kayaking in the area. The serene waters of Paravur Lake provide the apt location for kayaking, especially if you are a beginner. Gliding along the waters of this tiny, picturesque water-body will be an amazing experience.
What to expect?
Kayaking, as we all know, is the most eco-friendly way of romancing water. No cacophony of motor boats, no slicing of water, it is just you, the kayak, and loads of natural beauty. Contrary to popular belief, there is no need to be an expert swimmer, in order to try a hand at kayaking. You are well protected in the confines of the small kayak. Just muster a little courage, master the act of balancing and paddling on both sides, and there you are. In kayaks, the seats are very low, and you get that special feeling of being close to water. Canoeing is a different experience, where you can enjoy company too.
I too, had a lovely experience of kayaking in Paravur Backwaters(Varkala). I was a novice, not very sure of my paddling skills. There is not a bit of exaggeration when I say that the waters of Paravur Lake brought out the expert in me. It was a day when I learned a new skill, and a new way of loving nature. I have captured my experience in a video, which you can check out in my ‘Jaunt Monkey’ YouTube channel. I did Kayaking with Syzygy Ecosports in Kerala.
