Malakkappara is a small yet beautiful village on the hills of Thrissur in Kerala (India). When traveling from Kochi in Kerala, after Athirappally and Vazhachal, a drive through the jungle for almost 44 kilometers take you to the ends of Vazhachal forest division. The forest route is obviously a motivation for many travelers that stands a chance of sighting wild animals. On the other edge of the forest sleeps a small village surrounded by tea estates and rich natural beauty, Malakkappara.
Though spectacular the rolling hills and the small water falls in and around Malakkappara, the place was among the least visited destinations of Kerala. Since 2010, this hilltop village is gaining attention through the interest of riders who freaks between Athirappally and Valparai. The increasing tourist flow has also brought restaurants, homestays, and general stores to this place.

Nearest Railway Station: Chalakkudy Railway Station (83 kilometers)
Nearest Town: Valparai, Tamilnadu (28 kilometers)
Attractions: Tea estates, coffee plantations, beautiful hills and winding roads, Athirappally falls, Vazhachal falls, Vazhachal forest, upper and lower Sholayar reservoirs.
Other Information: Malakkara comes between two forest check posts of Vazhachal forest division. Hence we can consider this village to be the part of forest. Spending a night in one of the homestays can give you an exposure the beautiful nature and wild animals.
Riding solo through forest is a bit risky as animal encounters (especially elephant attacks) cannot be ruled out.
The best time to visit this place would be immediately after monsoon (September – December), though other months do have their own attractions in Malakkappara.
You can find buses running from Valparai, Chalakkudy and Thrissur to Malakkappara.
